What counts as a billing provider?

Most EHRs charge per seat, so every person who touches the software costs you money. Orion charges only for the people whose work produces revenue, and gives everyone else a login for free.

What it means on each plan

Pro is mostly used by cash-pay practices, or clinics that bill with their own team. The billing provider is the treating provider who submits the invoice for the visit.

Pro Plus adds the full revenue cycle inside Orion. The billing provider is the treating provider whose signed documentation becomes a claim to a payer.

In both cases the test is the same: did this clinician’s signed work turn into something you billed for?

Who you are never charged for

You are not charged for anyone who does not bill under their own National Provider Identifier. That includes physical therapist assistants, aides and techs, billing specialists and outside billers, front office and scheduling staff, office managers and practice owners who do not treat. They all get their own accounts, with their own permissions, at no charge.

If your clinic bills everything through one NPI

Some practices route every claim through a single group or supervising NPI. That does not change the count. We still count the treating providers who sign the clinical documentation that results in a claim, because that signature is what creates the billable work.

A real example

Say a clinic has five physical therapists who sign the documentation that turns into claims, ten physical therapist assistants, ten billing staff and five front office staff. That is thirty people in Orion, and you pay for five. The other twenty five get full logins for free.
